An update on nanoparticle usage in breast cancer imaging

Introduction The objective of this literature review is to highlight both the recent promises Nanoparticles (NPs) for breast imaging and potential solutions challenges that arise with using different types NPs. Methods We searched key terms on PubMed including NPs, MRI, CT, contrast agent (CA). selected 57 articles published from 2012 2020 discussed NP such as nanocarriers, titanium oxide tubes, carbon nanotubes, well gold, gold-silver alloy, silver, magnetic, gadolinium dicarbide, allochroic, calcium phosphate. Results While early studies NPs investigated their ability target cancer stem cells, enable visualization metastasis deliver therapeutic agents minimal toxicity, newer particles demonstrate a greater multifunctionality than previously thought. In review, we use existing research surprisingly broad range applications regards imaging, which includes activating immune identifying protein signatures early-stage cancer, ablating tumors through laser irradiation-triggered photothermal effect.
